SIERRA LEONE PREMIER LEAGUE

Impact Substitute Abu Komeh Downed Mighty Blackpool

Sunday, 10 February 2019

FC Kallon go second on the log of the Sierra Leone Premier League standings after a scintillating performance on Sunday evening saw them emerged victors against Mighty Blackpool by two goals to nil at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

Two late goals, one from the penalty spot by Sallieu Tarawalle in the 83rd minute and another six minutes later from Abu Komeh sealed a deserving victory for the Cavallians overtaking East End Lions on the second spot with the same number of points but a better goal difference.

Mighty Blackpool started the brightest in the earlier stages of proceedings dictating the pace of the game and creating chances as well.

FC Kallon, after a disappointing showing against Anti Drugs on Wednesday, started showing some team spirits around the twentieth minute, a course championed by Emmanuel Samadia and Mahmoud Fofanah keeping fans in a jam-packed Siaka Stevens Stadium lively.

Chances were squandered on either end of the field during the course of the forty five minutes which prompted a scoreless end to the first half of play.

FC Kallon came a side rejuvenated to get all three points in the second half of play with electrifying surge on the defence of Mighty Blackpool creating nervous moments for their fans.

The introduction of Hamad Hassan created some dynamism in the Tiss Tass Boys midfield but could not provide the goal which eludes them in over two hundred and seventy minutes of premier league actions.

The price for persistency was paid on the side of FC Kallon as Samadia was fouled inside the box by Abdul Kamara which subsequently resulted to a penalty and later slotted home by Sallieu Tarawalle in the 83rd minute arousing jubilation from the away team fans. Substitute Gibrilla Kamara’s (Osu) effort from a counter play hit the cross bar couple of minutes after they have taken the lead.

Substitute Abu Komeh, who scored Kallon’s loan goal in their first outing to Bo Rangers in Bo, doubled the lead just minutes after his introduction in the 89th minute.

This victory sends the Cavallians to second place with seven points in three games, three goals scored and non yet conceded.

The defeat for Mighty Blackpool means, the Sierra Leone Premier League most decorated team are still searching for their first league goal and three points in this year’s SLPL edition.

FC Kallon host Old Edwardians in midweek at the Siaka Stevens Stadium while Mighty Blackpool travels to East End Tigers in Lungi on Saturday, 16th February.

Sierra Leone Premier League Matches to be played on Saturday, 9th and Sunday 10 February 2019

Sierra Leone Premier League Matches to be played on Saturday, 9th and Sunday 10 February 2019

Kambio Eagles travels to East End Tigers, Bo Rangers host Central Parade, Anti Drugs welcome East End Lions, Edwardians to entertain RSLAF and Mighty Blackpool to thrill FC Kallon.

Its super weekend in the Sierra Leone Premier League. Football does not get much better than this in the West African nation.

This Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th February 2019, Sierra Leone football fans are set to be entertained by the country’s footballing stars both young and old in different venues across the country.

The Sierra Leone Premier League (SLPL) newest side, East End Tigers, may feel motivated with an opening victory away to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) football Club in the northern City of Makeni on Saturday, 2nd February.

The Tigers on Saturday, 9th February take the excitement of the Sierra Leone Premier League to the people of Lungi in an encounter supposed to be a thriller against the Eagles of Kenema. Having escaped defeat at the depth against Eastern Region rivals, Diamond Stars, Kambio Eagles may look for a new approach against a side suspected to be giants killers at the Lungi Central Stadium.

Formed by late East End Lions falling hero, Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay, Anti Drugs welcome a team which paved the way to their existence in Sierra Leone football, East End Lions, at the Approved School Mini Stadium, Wellington.

Drawing blank with an applauding performance against FC Kallon at the Siaka Stevens Stadium on Wednesday evening, Anti Drugs football club may be in high hopes of spoiling the Killers ongoing party. Top of the table E.E Lions may not be ready to drop points on Saturday afternoon Anti Drugs in Saturday’s derby.

Raymond Hunter and John Keister will have more directives to give on the touchline as protagonists in a highly expected team match.

Will the Lion roar for the third time in succession against a determined Anti Drugs side on Saturday afternoon, or will they bow unexpectedly?.

With no points in two, Bo Rangers technical team and players have started facing the heat from anxious fans who desires all three points as consolation for a team spirit shown so far both home and away when they play Central Parade at the Bo-Kenema highway stadium in Bo Rangers.

The Kakua Rangers needs to prove worthy of a just signed sponsorship deal with Communications giant, Africell under forty eight hours ago in a tricky fixture with the central guys. Having won one and drawing another, Central Parade team will be packed with expectation in their meeting the Premier league bottom side, Bo Rangers. The stakes are high with one expected to thrive in the country’s second capital.

Old Edwardians were hard done by in their one nil defeat to top of the table, East End Lions on 2nd February. With RSLAF having the same fate on that same day, Saturday’s clash between the two arouses the prospect of a nail biting scenario with cheers and jeers from both set of fans expecting a triumphant end on their side.

The first goal for either would be a turning point to a show expected of glamour and drama at the main bowl of the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

On Sunday, 10 February, the SLPL highest winners, Mighty Blackpool, angry for their first three points welcome two times winners, FC Kallon at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

This clash between the two explains a family tale only the players on the pitch of play can interpret. Just one point in two matches, the Tiss Tass boys illustrious history would not like to be joepardised with no win in three welcoming the young boys of Kallon.

FC Kallon were unconvincing during mid week versus Anti Drugs raising eyebrows from pundits on the team’s consistency.

The actions are sure to be thrilling under the flood lights of the Siaka Stevens Stadium on Sunday between the Tiss Tass boys, Mighty Blackpool and the Cavallians, FC Kallon.

President Julius Maada Bio Declares Rape and Sexual Violence as a National Emergency in Sierra Leone

State House, Freetown, Thursday 7 February 2019 – His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has officially declared a National Emergency on Rape and Sexual Violence, as a major step towards addressing rape and all forms of sexual violence in Sierra Leone.

In his keynote address, to a well-attended event at State House, President Bio said that each month hundreds of cases of rape and sexual assaults were being reported against women, girls and babies with some of the fatalities being as young as three months old and that 70% of survivors of the traumatic experience being under the age of 15.

He said, on a sad note, thousands more cases of rape and sexual violence were unreported because some families and communities practice a culture of silence or indifference about sexual violence, leaving victims traumatised. He noted that alarmingly, the perpetrators were getting younger and their acts getting more violent and bestial.

“Of nearly 3,000 reported sexual assault cases, 602 of the survivors became pregnant; 7 of them contracted HIV/AIDS; 2,404 had STDs; thousands more were scarred and traumatised by the ordeal. Only 39 of these 3,000 reported cases were successfully prosecuted whilst 2,961 of the survivors of sexual violence were denied justice,” he disclosed.

“My government will continue to work with civil society organisations, development partners, and community stakeholders to address gaps and deficiencies in the Sexual Offences Act of 2012. I am directing close interagency collaboration in ensuring that the full cycle of services from reporting, investigation, treatment, after-care, and prosecution is free, uncomplicated, and delivery speedily,” he said.

President Bio also stated that his government would invest in training specialised Police personnel, providing adequate forensic facilities, collecting and collating comprehensive sexual violence data, delivering free medical services to survivors, and catering for safe homes and psychosocial care for survivors.

He said that government would engage communities and civil society in dialogues to eliminate the culture of compromise and silence around sexual violence, adding that the country must put an end to the scourge that was slowly wrecking the nation.

“On this note, I, therefore, declare rape and sexual violence as National Emergency. With this declaration, I have also directed the following. That ALL Government Hospitals MUST provide FREE Medical Treatment and certificate to every victim of rape and sexual abuse.

“That a Special Division for Rape and Sexual Penetration of Minors be created by the Sierra Leone Police to speedily handle all cases of Rape and Sexual Penetration of Minors. This new Special Division will be separated from the Family Support Unit; That the Chief Justice consider creating a Special Division with assigned judges to deal with cases of Rape and Sexual Violence.

“That with immediate effect, sexual penetration of Minors is punishable by LIFE IMPRISONMENT; that the High Court should consider 136 Proceedings in the High Court in order to speed up prosecution and trail of ALL new cases of Rape and Sexual Violence.

“That Law Officers Department should consider to charging all persons accused of Rape and Sexual Violence with an offence of “Aggravated Assault”. Finally, a dedicated National Emergency Telephone Number for reporting Rape and Sexual Violence would be made available to the public,” he closed.

Chairperson of the Rainbo Initiative, Dr Olabisi Claudius Cole, said the historic declaration was a landmark in tackling sexual and gender-based violence in the country, adding that had been made possible through the tireless voices of survivors and activists who had been working on the issue away from the spotlight without resources or resources.

She said they were thankful to the President for listening to the voices and acknowledging the urgency of the issue, saying that the declaration was sending a strong message that the country was entering a phase of zero tolerance wherein the laws of the land would bite perpetrators.

First Lady, Her Excellency Madam Fatima Bio, who delivered the vote of thanks, said rape and all forms of sexual violence were unacceptable in society and that they were menaces to the society that people should not encourage. Krio Borbor response to negative comments on his viral BBC News Africa video

I’ve never experienced so much negativity as I did today watching all the comments come in on the BBC News Africa video.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
I felt a mix of emotions.

‍‍I felt sad that so many people could be so angry at someone promoting the country they claim as their own.
‍‍‍‍‍
I felt frustration as I read comments from confused people with inaccurate information talking about how I’m making money from this.

‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍I felt a flash of anger as others accused me of being “privileged” because I came to Salone as a Mormon missionary and said I was on a paid ministry so I learned Krio out of boredom.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
There were a few comments that made me want to lash back and set the record straight.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
But then I thought about what my real purpose here is: to positively impact our country in a big way.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
I decided to demonstrate that I mean business, and arguing back and forth with those that will always have hate in their hearts is not the way to accomplishing this goal.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
I’m 27 years old. I’m young, but I’ve learned enough to know that you don’t waste time trying to sell the unsellable. In other words, trying to get support from people who will never give it.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
I’ve got one purpose for being here.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
As I look at this picture I remember that purpose and what this is all about.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
It’s not about me, it’s about Mama Salone.
‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍
It’s about giving back to the country that has spent her entire existing giving, and getting nothing back in return.
