Mercury International MD Boosts U-19 Players Before Departure
Few hours before the departure of the national U-19 cricket team to South Africa, the Mercury International Lottery and Betting Company MD Martin Michael who also doubles as the Cricket Association Vice Chairman boosted the morale of the U-19 team with Le25.8M.
He told the boys that the money was to boost their morale for the tournament they are going to take part in Namibia next month. The U-19 Boys will stay in South Africa for two weeks high performance training before they head to the tournament host country. Their stay in South Africa will be at the expense of the team as ICC will only take care of them when the tournament kicks-off. This, the leader of the delegation Francis Samura said the donation is a massive morale boost for the team’s preparation for the World Cup preparation.
Francis said the donation was not a surprise to them as it is a continuation of what the Vice Chairman has been doing to help cricket develop in the country. The team departed Sierra Leone on Wednesday 27 February and arrive Johannesburg yesterday Thursday 28 February.
He assured the Mercury MD that the Boys will surely make use of the donation to qualify the country for the Global U-19 World Cup. The tournament will kick-off on the 17th -23rd March 2019 with six countries with one country to qualify for the Global tournament.
