Sierra Leone Premier League 2019 – Bo Rangers and Kamboi Eagles Set for a showpiece

Days become weeks and weeks turn months, the moment of anticipation and hype from fans and neutrals is something set to become history as the actual “the day” of the meeting between giants of the South and those of the East, is just under 24 Hrs.

Bo Rangers and Kamboi Eagles meet for the first time this season in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League on Friday, 29th March, 2019 but this time in a neutral venue where passion and emotion will be outclassed by teamwork and individual brilliance to lead one into glory.

The league’s bottom side, Bo Rangers, despite down, may never want a defeat against their closest neighbors, Kamboi Eagles in a footballing combat. The die is cast and there’s only one alternative to take the Rangers out of the bottom, and that alternative is to win both remaining matches against Kamboi Eagles and Mighty Blackpool respectively.

Yet to win at home soil, Kamboi Eagles may reminisce the three winning moments at East End Tigers, Parade and Old Edwardians as inspiration to creating another home heartbreak for Bo Rangers whose only hope of taking them off the bottom, is to take home all three points.

With just one win, three draws and six defeats, fans of Bo Rangers are thoughtful their team is in the wrong position expected by them before the league’s commencement, and may need a drastic technical approach to salvage their winning woes. A win on Friday may be the most cherished.

Having lost just two, drawing six and winning three, the Eagles may feel their fifteen (15) points tally is no commensuration to their past performances. A point they will have to prove on Friday evening.

The Siaka Stevens Stadium on Friday evening will be filled with football enthusiasts from the provinces who will come miles away seeking the excitement of this historic match and the drama it entails.

The midfield struggle is sure to light up the evening as fans favourite, Nathaniel Tongovula (Anderson) comes face to face with Sierra Leone football new midfield sensation, Ibrahim Turay (Computer).

Bo Rangers are paying a price for not playing this high profile match in their home turf after incidences of fans intrusion, pitch invasion and crowd trouble forced the Premier League Board (PLB) to relocate their remaining two matches at the Siaka Stevens Stadium and act as a deterrent to other intending perpetrators.

NMA DIRECTOR GENERAL SELLS MINING OPPORTUNITIES TO INVESTORS IN GHANA

The Director General of the National Minerals Agency, Julius Mattai, on the 27th March 2019 encouraged investors in Ghana to take advantage of the major opportunities for investment in the mining sector in Sierra Leone, where the Government is undertaking major reforms to make life easy for investors.

Making a presentation on ‘What investors can take advantage of in the Minerals Sector in Sierra Leone’, at the Sierra Leone Investment Seminar, held at the La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra, Julius Mattai informed a cross section of Government officials and investors that Sierra Leone is richly endowed with an abundance of minerals, including diamonds, gold, iron-ore, bauxite, rutile, coltan, etc.

The above, coupled with the efforts of government to create an enabling investment climate, he went on, makes the country an attractive destination for mining investment. The Director General pointed out to the audience that the above list of minerals is by no means exhaustive, and he informed them that the country is conducting an airborne geophysical survey, which will be followed by fieldwork, to determine the true mineral potentials of the country.

Julius Mattai further explained that “Sierra Leone wants to attract reputable investors with transparent processes and procedures that will contribute more to the country in the long-term, and has taken steps to provide a conducive environment which will be easy to do business”. He highlighted legislative review, consistencies in the application of legislative provisions; security of tenure; streamlined and competitive tax regimes; and transparency, as among the major reforms that government is pursuing to attract investment.
He ended by informing his audience that Sierra Leone is open for business and extended an open invitation to all investors, assuring them of an investment climate that guarantees a win-win situation, whereby investors get good returns, and the country and her people also benefit.

The Sierra Leone Investment Seminar is organized by the Sierra Leone High Commission in Ghana. The event creates an excellent opportunity for private investors in Ghana to engage and identify potential investment opportunities in Sierra Leone, while creating a unique platform for both parties to exchange ideas that will be of mutual benefit to both Countries.

Nation Wide Resource Organisation to Implement 10 Billion Leones Worth of Projects for the Development of 40 Chiefdoms across Sierra Leone

Most far-sighted and well-meaning Sierra Leoneans have come to the harsh realisation that the riches bestowed on their Land have not benefited them nor have those endowments reflected on National Development. One may only need to reflect on the plight of the Kono People and how the Diamonds so far discovered in that District have not profited them.

Similarly, the Peoples of Tonkolili and Port Loko have not commensurately gained from the series of Mining Activities that occur in their Districts. All that is visible in these Localities is an unfading desire for money . The inhabitants of these Communities seem to have cultivated a carefree and sluggish attitude. Their hope for success in life is limited to mere wishful thinking. As a consequent, the bulk of them tend to abandon their Rural Settings and trek out to Urban places in search of far-fetched riches. Interestingly, quite a good number of them have become social misfits after enrolling themselves into gangs of criminals. It has also resulted to Overcrowding particularly in the Capital City of Freetown and an increased rate of criminality.

It has therefore been an age-old problem for the Authorities to temper down the escalating standards of living and to as well address the issue of overcrowding in places like Freetown. The means to relocate these young and able-bodied persons to the Rural Communities has always been thorny. But it would appear there is now a workable solution at hand being proffered by the ‘Nation Wide Resource Organisation’ [NWRO.] It is a None Government Organisation preparing to implement a Ten [10] Billion Leones worth of Projects geared toward the empowerment of Youths and Women in 10 Districts and Forty Chiefdoms across the Country.

This was disclosed by its Program Coordinator – Raymond N’silk Saidu Kanu at a meeting of Farmland Owners in Lokomasama Chiefdom , Port Loko District. The Meeting which attracted a lot of Natives including Farmers and Traditional Authorities, was conducted at Babara Walah – one of the leading Rice Producing Communities in the District.

There was a strong desire for the Project to commence without further delay when the Program Coordinator informed the gathering that NWRO intends to construct 10 Kilometer Roads to Farming Communities in each of the targeted Chiefdoms, in addition to slated Agricultural inputs. Mr. Raymond N’silk Saidu Kanu was accorded a thunderous round of applause, when he said his Organization would also provide Farmers with Tractors, Seed rice, Fertiliser and food for work. The Program Coordinator told Stakeholders that the Project is Co- funded by the Government of Sierra Leone and International Partners through the District Councils, noting that his Organisation would be operating in a total of 10 Chiefdoms in both Bombali and Port Loko Districts. He therefore urged for the cooperation of all and sundry as the International Partners are due in Sierra Leone to assess the level of preparedness very son.

Mr. Unisa M. Conteh is the Port Loko District Program Manager . He singled out Koya, Masimera, Maforki, Marampa and Lokomasama as the Chiefdoms selected to benefit from the Project in Port Loko District. He said 15 Associations of 25 Members are expected to be serviced in the first phase of the Project. He went further to explain how a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed and that Communities are required to provide the Farm Land to be leased for a given period. NWRO was established in the early 1980s and has intervened in a series of spheres.

It’s Management recently resorted to Agriculture, in a bid to thin the City, foster National development as well as empowering Youths and Women. Below are Photos obtained during the Meeting at Babara Wallah in the Lokomasama Chiefdom- Port Loko District…..

BIG FIGHT FOR TIGERS GOAL MACHINE “Baimba Sesay”

Confirmed source reaching Leone sport from the east end tigers training ground this morning at the stadium training field. There was a tussle between three football mangers claiming ownership of east end tigers star man “Baimba Sesay.”

East end tigers CEO Victor Lewis, Jason Turay and Chernor Musa a football agent all claiming ownership of the player. Mr Jason Turay who is a top official of Giant of grass field football club said the players belong to him, and Baimba is a official player of his club. The tussle keep mounting this morning at the stadium training field, as the three mangers express their thought about the player (Baimba).

This has been one of the sickness of Sierra Leone managers, they only fight over you when things are brighter. Baimba was no body before the league commence, and he was with tigers all this while training before the league.

If Baimba is seen as a rising super star today, east end tigers played a great role by giving him a premier league platform. All parties need to resolved the matters instead of destroying the young lad future, because such issues has lead to many young players downfall. The young lad is in his form of his life, and he needs high focus to accomplished his dream in soccer.

I Rep Salone interview with Hudson Martins – a Sierra Leonean Fashion Designer

Hudson Martins is a Fashion Designer who’s been into the Fashion business for 2-3 years. He owns his own brand called the “Hudson Martins Collections”. Hudson says he has always had a passion for fashion ever since he was a boy and due to that passion, he has had the opportunity to work with some of the big names in Sierra Leone fashion namely Jenneh owner of Swank hotel, Amizo to name a few.

He mentioned his Grandmother who was a seamstress as his biggest inspiration and one of the reasons he chose to be a fashion designer though he was very good at creative practical Arts in school and stated that his biggest challenge as a fashion designer is getting to be a fashion designer because there are no fashion schools in Sierra Leone and also raising the funds to buy his machine and start-up his own shop was another major obstacle.

Hudson said winning the Award for the Best Fashion Designer in 2016 an award hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Miss Sierra Leone Limited is one of his biggest achievements so far. Aside from being a Fashion Designer Hudson also works as a Fashion consultant for Madengn, a group that hosts fashion events annually. He said he does not think Fashion Designers in the Fashion Industry in Sierra Leone get the spotlight they deserve due to their own shortcomings and highlighted the aspect of them not being able to find their niche or them being able to work with other designers as a major reason for that.

According to Hudson, the Fashion Industry lacks consistency, “so many people start being fashion designers but end up fading away due to reasons best known to them. Some may be financial, others just can’t handle the stress from the tailors and others are not able to acquire their own shops. I think if you cannot beat these challenges then you can’t be a fashion designer, because most Fashion Designers don’t start big”.

Hudson says he does not do too much of marketing for his brand and designs due to the high number of piracy in Sierra Leone, he highlighted people copying designs of fashion designers online and taking it to separate tailors to sew for them thereby not allowing the Fashion Designer to make the required amount of money he should make on the design as his major fear and reason of not doing a lot of marketing and advertising. He also highlighted the inconsistency of customers not being loyal to a particular Fashion Designer as another major obstacle for them as Fashion Designers.

His message to young aspiring Fashion Designers is to be submissive to those who have made it in the industry people who have created pieces and left a mark in the Fashion industry. Get to learn from these people. He said as a young fashion designer you should always strive to sketch your own designs and also understand the body type of your customers the body of the customer determines the designs. He calls on Fashion Designers in Sierra Leone to strive to change the mindset of Sierra Leoneans about Fashion for the betterment of the Industry.
