Njala University Torwama campus school of Education building was on fire yesterday

A fire incident occurred between 7:00PM and 8:00PM on the 16th March, 2019 on Bo Campus, Njala University. It happened in one of the building’s housing the School of Education. The burning fire lasted for over two hours and destroyed numerous intellectual and administrative documents, as well as various equipment and furniture in the offices. In particular, the top floor of the building, its offices, roof and other structural facilities were heavily damaged, many beyond repairs.

Frantic efforts by the Bo City Fire Force, students and many staff on campus and in the immediate vicinity helped to contain the fire from spreading to the other nearby buildings. The rugged terrain posed serious mobility challenges for the Fire Force vehicles in getting close to the burning structure.

How the fire started is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the Administration has contacted several Government operatives regarding the unfortunate state of affairs. Key authorities of the Ministry of Education and the Njala University Administration shall converge at the Bo Campus on Sunday 17th March 2019 for necessary Administrative actions, including investigation of the occurrence of the fire.

The University’s wishful doors and windows are open for further assistance in dealing expediently with the matter. Exclusively noted is that Njala University Administration has been strenuously struggling to surmount its numerous challenges it inherited, amidst which the ill-fated fire event emerged. The impact of the devastation on academic operations is a serious setback, for which extraordinary assistance is needed to continue to normalize the university’s timely functions.

The Vice Chancellor, the Principle, the Registrar and the Deputy Vice Chancellors of the University and the rest of the members of the Administration, particularly appreciate the efforts of the Bo City Fire Force in containing and ultimately putting the fire off. Other staff and students of the Njala University who took part in the containment and saving some of the furniture and a few other materials are highly appreciated. Thank you all immensely for your kind efforts! At Njala University we pray for no more.

Alonzo treat Londoners/UK to his EP Launching on Saturday March 16th 2019

Audiences in London are in for a treat this coming Saturday, March 16th, as Sierra Leonean born Artist, Alonzo Teah Abasi, known by his legions of fans by a single moniker, Alonzo, will be electrifying the stage with the launch of his mixtape, ‘Kroo Town Road Borboh.’

Alonzo is no stranger to big crowds. He burst into the scene after he was chosen out of hundreds of hopefuls by the United States Embassy in Liberia to win the singing competition geared towards raising awareness for HIV/AIDS in 2002.

The US Embassy then sponsored the release of the single which not only talked about the devastating effects of the disease, but also about prevention, and protection from the disease.

With his love for music ignited, Alonzo went on to record his 1st mixtape in Nigeria which was later released in Liberia in 2006. The mixtape, ‘Innocent’, was critically acclaimed as the singles, Angel, I Can’t Believe, and title track Innocent resonated with audiences.

The song ‘Angel’ was about a long lost love who travelled abroad, but never kept in touch. He pined for his angel, and promised he would go looking for her until they are reunited. Not only was his sound in this song very smooth, and consistent, but he swoops, and turns in English, and Krio ( English patois commonly spoken in Sierra Leone) showing off his impressive falsetto, delivering a lush sound that becomes stuck with you after just one listen.

The sentiment in his other song, ‘Innocent’ is reminiscent of the Reggae Singer Shaggy’s song, ‘It Wasn’t Me.’ In this song, Alonzo, like Shaggy, tries to convince his girl that even though she may have seen him with another woman, it definitely is not as it seems.

He begs the woman to listen to him, so he can exonerate himself. It is not just love songs that Alonzo is good at, he is also very socially conscious. After being approached, and signed to Kallboxx Records in 2008, he released, Africa Unite. This gained traction with international audiences, and was on rotation at the BBC Radio Network.

This helped Alonzo land a lucrative deal with Sony, and BMG music. Very soon, Alonzo was on The Best of African mix with Artists he had looked up to all his life. The likes of Youssou Ndour, and Miriam Makeba, to name a few. Alonzo has won many awards both locally, and internationally.

Even though he appreciates the accolades, it is performing for his fans that gives him the most satisfaction. Join him this Saturday for yet another galvanising performance as he brings nostalgia with his old hits, and quench your appetite for his new music.

So, bring a friend, bring a lover or bring a brother, whatever you do, just make sure you do not miss the EP launch of ‘Kroo Town Road Borboh’, by yours truly, the one and only dynamic, and captivating ALONZO !!!!!!

FC Kallon go three Points Clear in Premier League Screamer

FC Kallon cemented their position at the top of the Sierra Leone Premier League table after winning by one goal to nil against Kamboi Eagles on Saturday evening in a match classified as a screamer.

Kamboi Eagles were the brightest in a pulsating first ten minutes of footballing action hitting the woodwork in the process.

FC Kallon gradually came into the match creating endless chances which were also thwarted by Eagles goalkeeper, Mambay Satti.
The match ended goalless in a first half classified by football pundits as the best so far in the Sierra Leone Premier League.

Kamboi Eagles started the second half with a more determined spirit from the dog out, dictating proceedings and providing promising moments.

Ibrahim Turay’s (IB Computer) heroics could not provide the Eagles elusive moment of redemption as most chances were squandered by anxiety.

The introduction of Gibrilla Kamara (Osu) and Ibrahim Kallay (Sogor) midway through the second half by FC Kallon changed the cavallians fortune by stabilising the midfield and creating defensive unrest for Kamboi Eagles.

A cynical tackle by Kamboi Eagles Sallieu Barrie on Sallieu Tarawalie in the 84th minute gifted a set piece opportunity for FC Kallon, leading to a free kick beautifully curled in the top right hand corner of goalkeeper Satti’s goal in the 85th by sensational Emmanuel Samadia.

The defeat for the Eagles against Kallon on Saturday evening is their second after eight matches and further preventing them from scoring from away for the first time in four away outings.

FC Kallon who will be welcomed by third place East End Tigers on Tuesday at the Siaka Stevens Stadium now sit comfortably on top of the log with 18 point till next week, regardless of the outcome result in their Tuesday’s fixture against Tigers.

League Leaders FC Kallon welcomes Away Kings Kamboi Eagles

Top of the Sierra Leone Premier League table FC Kallon, have a match at hand as they welcome fifth place Kamboi Eagles at the Siaka Stevens Stadium on Saturday, 9th March, 2019.

The fight to retain first spot in the Premier League table is a fight the cavallians must be ready for on Saturday evening with a crunch time battle against a Kamboi Eagles side which has won every away match available on their patch.

With both sides having fifteen (15) and twelve (12) points respectively, the match between FC Kallon versus Kamboi Eagles tells a tale of heritage coupled with pride of recent and past history.

With just a goal and a win in their past three home games, fans of the cavallians must be in a desperate mood to see their players produce their absolute best and knock out a team with almost the same fate at home, but deadly away.

Victory for Central Parade on Friday evening against the army boys, RSLAF means the central side go top of the log with eighteen points and putting the pressure on Kallon who will need nothing but a win against the Eagles if they are to regain top spot on Saturday evening.

Kamboi Eagles on the other hand, may relish the opportunity to go equal on points with FC Kallon if they repeat the same feats which gave them victories against Central Parade and Old Edwardians in Freetown the previous weeks.

In another development, Football for a better tomorrow Sierra Leone (FANT-SL) presented boxing equipments to Sierra Leone Boxing Association as a means of complement to its good job.
