Sierra Leonean designer Adama Kai of Aschobi Designs dies in New York
The death of Sallie Adama Kargbo is announced in New York on Wednesday January 31st 2018. She is survived daughter of her parents Minister of Finance Momodu Kargbo and Jennifer Kargbo and her sisters Manja Kargbo-Abdulai, Tiamatta Kargbo and Connie Kargbo. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
ADAMA KAI (Adama Sallie Kargbo) was an extremely gifted and forward thinking Sierra Leonean fashion designer determined to conquer the world of fashion on her own terms. 24 year old Adama Sallie Karqbo is a recent graduate of Parsons school of Design in Paris, France – a branch of a New York City prestigious private school of The New School and the New York University, NYU school system.
Born in New Jersey, Adama move to Sierra Leone at the age of four and later lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She has a very early passion for clothes and fashion design and after boarding school attended the Parsons School of Design in Paris before moving to New York. In New York, Adama worked for Flaunt magazine and Magnet Management. After years of working on fashion campaigns for brands like Versace and Prada, Adama decided it was time to strike out on her own, so she moved back to to Sierra Leone and launched Aschobi Designs.
Since its debut, Aschobi Designs has been featured in international media like Reuters, BBC and CNN, but it was during Paris Fashion Week that Adama experienced her break out fashion achievement by presenting her collection at the Hotel Bristol with influential retailers like Maria Luisa Poumaillou in attendance.
