MOHAMED KAKAY: FIRST PICTURE OF ‘DEVOTED’ FATHER STABBED TO DEATH IN CAMBERWELL CHURCHYARD

This is the first picture of a “devoted” father who was stabbed to death in a south London churchyard.

Mohamed Kakay, 33, was ambushed and knifed repeatedly in the chest in the grounds of St Giles Church in Camberwell, south London, at just after 9am on Saturday.

He staggered along a pathway from the back of the churchyard before collapsing on the pavement outside.

Passers-by desperately tried to revive him before paramedics arrived.

He was pronounced dead at King’s College hospital from puncture wounds to his heart and liver.

Mr Kakay fled war-torn Sierra Leone in 1999 to claim asylum and start a family in the UK.

He had been settled in Birmingham, where he raised his three children, before moving to Bromley last year to work as as a porter in hotels across central London.

His brother Joe Thomas, who followed him to Britain two years later, said: “We’re shocked by this. My brother wasn’t a violent man. We’re all just trying to hold ourselves together.

“He was my mentor he taught me everything, how to ride a bike, how to swim and how to look after kids so I could eventually raise my own.

“He would call me every other day to see I’m eating properly and getting enough sleep, he was so caring.

“He was the best father any boy could ever hope to have. All of the 16 years in this country have been spent providing for those boys.

“They are still crying, they can’t believe their daddy is gone.”

Mr Kakay was the eldest of five siblings, and his other brother and two sisters live in the US.

Mr Thomas begged any witnesses of his brother’s murder to come forward so his family could “get the answers they deserve”.

He said: “There is no reason why anyone would want to hurt him. If you saw him in the street he was always smiling or cracking a joke.

“Somebody killed him and now he is never going to see his boys grow up. He spent all his years working to raise them properly, to see they got a good education and now he will never see their futures.

“Our family are suffering and we need to get justice for him.

“The government need to take knife crime seriously because innocent people are getting killed, it just needs to stop.”

Chez Winakabz, a close friend, said: “He thought everything of his children, he was totally devoted to them. He would constantly send me pictures of them so I could see how big they were getting.

“It’s tragic for his kids. He was so excited to see them over the holidays and bring them Christmas presents. He would get them anything they wanted, he was so happy.

“He was supposed to be at his job that early in the morning but he never made it in.”

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Watling, who is leading the investigation, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held at a south London police station.

Anyone with information is urged to call the incident room on 020 8721 4205 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org

Appeals Court Rules Employers Can Ban Dreadlocks At Work

0

A federal appeals court maintained that it is OK to discriminate against traditionally black hairstyles, like locs.

The 3-0 ruling came down on Sept. 15 when the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a claim from a 2014 ruling that said racial discrimination had to be based on characteristics that didn’t change, and the hairstyle didn’t qualify as “immutable.”

“We recognize that the distinction between immutable and mutable characteristics of race can sometimes be a fine (and difficult) one, but it is a line that courts have drawn,” U.S. Circuit Judge Adalberto Jordan wrote for the most recent ruling. “So, for example, discrimination on the basis of black hair texture (an immutable characteristic) is prohibited by Title VII, while adverse action on the basis of black hairstyle (a mutable choice) is not.”

A black women named Chastity Jones, who was getting ready to start a job with Catastrophe Management Solutions in Mobile, Alabama, in 2010, claimed that the company discriminated against her because of her locs. Jones said that a white human resources manager told her that her locs were against company policy since they “tend to get messy.” After Jones refused to change her hairstyle, she claims her offer was withdrawn, and she complained to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The commission filed a lawsuit on Jones’ behalf in 2013, stating that withdrawing her contract based on her hairstyle is racial discrimination because “dreadlocks are a manner of wearing the hair that is physiologically and culturally associated with people of African descent.” The EEOC argued that race is a social construct not solely defined by traits that can’t be changed. It also asserted that the “hairstyle can be a determinant of racial identity.”

The Alabama federal court dismissed the EEOC’s claim. The commission filed an appeal in 2015 and the appellate court declined the EEOC’s request to throw out the “immutable or mutable” distinction and upheld the federal court’s original ruling.

Jordan, however, did acknowledge in his ruling on Thursday that in recent decades, “There have been some calls for courts to interpret Title VII more expansively by eliminating the biological conception of ‘race’ and encompassing cultural characteristics associated with race,” but that he wasn’t prepared to lead that inquiry regarding discrimination. He added, “As far as we can tell, every court to have considered the issue has rejected the argument that Title VII protects hairstyles culturally associated with race.”

A spokeswoman for the EEOC told the Wall Street Journal after the ruling that they believe the court made the wrong decision.

“We believe the court was incorrect when it held that the employer’s actions could not be proven to be race discrimination,” she said. “ We are reviewing our options.”

Despite the court’s ruling, black men and women are still being reprimanded in workplaces and classrooms across the country (and world) for wearing hairstyles unique to their culture.

Society, often times, views what’s acceptable for black hair through a white lens so braids, locs and afros can be deemed “unkempt.”

From Rachel Sakabo, who claimed she was fired from an upscale hotel after refusing to cut her locs, to the Rastafarian student who was punished at his school for keeping his locs to Zendaya being criticized for her faux locs on the red carpet, implicit bias constantly rears it’s ugly head when it comes to black hair.

WHO TO BE BLAME FOR THE CONTAMINATED CHICKEN SAGA AT BOMEH SL?

WHO TO BE BLAME FOR THE CONTAMINATED CHICKEN SAGA AT BOMEH SL?

WHO TO BE BLAME FOR THE CONTAMINATED CHICKEN SAGA AT BOMEH SL?

Tons of rotten and infected chickens brought into ‪‎Sierra Leone‬ and the Govt say they know not who brought them in. As they were being dumped, hundreds – probably thousands – of people scrambled for them. Some of the disease-prone chickens have found they way into homes and shops. Poverty and illiteracy and inert leadership will sweep us all along. Cry my beloved country!

Writting by a Concern Citizen

The Police
The People
The Government
The Bomeh Admin Management?

THE POLICE

The Police are the major head in this issue. Proper planning and security should have been put in place to protect the lives and properties of it citizens. It is due to poor security which gives rise to the heartless Sierra Leoneans to go into this place to pick up this contaminated chickens in the first place.

THE PEOPLE

There are factors that are responsible for the involvement of these Sierra Leoneans to go into that ‘bomeh’ for contaminated chickens.

1. Poverty
Sincerely speaking, people are suffering in this country. Not everyone can afford a meal per day. Things are really difficult for the ordinary man to make ends meet. When all these linked problems of poverty arise, the government will forced its people to such abnormality. So if the Government cannot able to meet the basic needs of it people, then expect things more worse than this. Because it will now be a matter of struggling for survival. Everyone wants to meet it daily needs.

2. Illiteracy
The rate of illiteracy in Sierra Leone can not be over emphasis. It is only an illiterate person that can afford to pick contaminated chickens from the waste disposal depot. A well educated person can never do such because he/she has been educated about health and safety.

3. Wickedness
Some Sierra Leonean are wicked in general. They will do it deliberately just to make monies out of it but they can never feed themselves and their family with it.

THE GOVERNMENT

This is a matter of poor governance system. It seems like the government do not even care about the health of it people. I don’t want people to think this as politics. But this is the hard facts. We just came from Ebola. We all know how this Ebola put the lives of ordinary sierra leoneans into danger. People lost their love ones and many people died. All these is as result of the poor preparation and measure taken by the government at start. Ebola is over, and now is “The Bomeh chicken Saga.”

Sierra Leone has turn to a place of dumping all such of rubbishes and gabbages. All such of nonsense we tolerate in this country; fowl foot, fowl hand, fowl waist, sausage, trash etc. etc. Why can’t these things don’t go into Gambia?

Mr Government, your people are dieing everyday in this country. It hard time for you to put a stop to all these things. They are not hygiene for our consumption. The people who regard themselves as the first world can never eat such foods. In fact they cannot tolerate it to their countries. Why Sierra Leone? The reason why this contaminated chickens was not able to protected is because of your poor planning and lack of care for your people. There are so many rhetorical questions we should be asking this government. But I will limit it to only two:

  1. You know this chicken is not good for our consumption, then why allowing expired goods into the country?
  2. Why wasn’t it disposed in a safe manner and far from a poverty-struck community?
I think the general public will find an answers to those questions.

There was a time when the issue of cocaine and the likes where leaked into this country, we all see the measures that was put in place to destroyed and protected it from the people, as it was told. Now when it comes to chicken, the government is farther more complacent.

May God save this Nation
