I Rep Salone|Wedding Corner with Mr and Mrs Fanta (Fantacial) and Henery Momodu

1) Name of the couple: Fanta and Henery Momodu

2) Where are you currently base – UK or other? UK

3) How did you meet? Met at a train station in Sheffield

4) How long have you been together? Around 3 years from July 2013

5) Tell us about your proposal – was it romantic – where was it? Yes, we went to Basketmouth show and that was where he proposed to me. I was watching the show when he brought out the ring and asked me to marry him, I was shocked and surprised. The proposal was around February time, Valentine’s special.

6) How long after the proposal before the actual wedding or traditional wedding? Shortly after the proposal we did our traditional wedding in April and our white wedding was in May 2016.

7) Where did you get married – UK or other? UK in Manchester

8) Tell us about the wedding: The wedding was something I have always wanted, it was a day I will never forget, I was shocked and surprise as there were other personal problems that was happening in the relationship. The relationship have been on and off so when he proposed to me I did not believe him and at the time I was not into him fully. The wedding was great, lots of fun and especially he had already done all the planning and preparation for the wedding so I had little to do.

9) Would you change anything about the wedding or the proposal? No as he had already done the planning including the wedding dress. I am very happy as I met the right person and my traditional wedding was a low key process.

10) Tell us about the planning of the wedding from makeup artist to hall decorations: It was a crazy day as people were surprised that I am getting married, also my husband did all the preparations. The process was a bit easy as my husband bought everything for me including the dress, shoe, hair and I did the organising of the bridesmaid which was not easy. Make up artist was busy as they thought the married was in the following week so my friend did my makeup therefore I was late for my wedding.

11) Were people supportive about your wedding, for example family and friends? Not family members though they were some support from my husband side and some of my friends also assist.

12) What do you love about him/her? He is caring, hardworking, takes care of his responsibilities as an African man and I would not swap him for another. As for me he knows I know how to cook, I am special to him and supportive.

13) One bad habit can you say about him/her? I find it so annoying and upsetting when he ignores me when I am talking to him especially when he is watching football, he hates being distracted. Because I am the chatter box he doesn’t take my sides when I have issues with other people because he doesn’t want to get involve. What he don’t like about me is that I talk too much and hence is why he ignores me in order to avoid arguments.

14) The dress – is it your ideal dream dress and where can people get it from? (You don’t need to disclosed the information) The dress was bought by him and was my dream dress – same dress as my mentor

15) What advice do you have for people entering into relationship/s especially those looking for long term partner? You need patience, focus on your partner, not everything you tell people, try to solve problems between you two and listen to your partner. Don’t be picky, focus, try to know the person that you dating and do a checks before taking it serious because marriage is a life time commitment.

16) Anything you want to add? Advice – cut down on friends, your partner should be your partner, listen to your husband, you need to calm down and learn to talk to your partner and find means to communicate with your partner.

Make up artist: My friend
Wedding organiser/Planner: My husband
Food/Catering: Church member

How to cook petetehleaf with palm oil the Sierra Leone way

How to cook petetehleaf with palm oil the Sierra Leone way

There are different ways of cooking petetehleaf, some cook it white and others add palm oil, however the method below is with palm oil.

Ingredients use: pepper, onions, jumbo magie, season salt, ogiri (sesame seed), butter beans, petetehleaf, palm oil, lamb meat, catfish, crabs, turkey chicken, aubergine (giblox) and water.

Cooking process

    • After you have cleaned the meat/crab, add water in the pot
    • Put the meat/crab, blend/grind/pound pepper and onions together and pour it into the pot and add some slices of onions in order to give it flavour
    • Add ogiri, butter beans, palm oil, seasons such as magie and salt
    • Leave it to boil/cook for 30 to 40 minutes
    • Add the cut/chopped petetehleaf in the pot and some slices of onions on top of it and cover the pot to steamer
    • Add the steamed aubergine – (you don’t have to put the aubergine but I noticed it gives it nice flavour, nice texture and volume)
    • Add the smoked turkey chicken and the fish
    • Mix and reduce fire and leave it to steamer/cook for about another 10 minutes
    • Keep mixing, check for taste and leave it to dry until you are able to achieve your results
    • When finish serve with rice

1) Your Name: Mike Jacobs

2) Your job title: I am a consultant in business and fashion

3) Where are you currently base – Salone, UK or other? I am currently based in Nigeria

4) How would you describe yourself? I am a goal getter with great attention to details. I am a hub of fresh business ideas with a great will to help other climb their various mountains.

5) Role in the Sierra Leone Community? None at the moment

6) Your Challenges: My biggest challenge in the African community has been the difficulty of making people understand and relate with me on the same business wavelength. Most Africans think they already know a lot about business and does not need a professional to do well. After spending so much and failing they will need you to come in and help. Always hard to convince them that they need you from the onset. Plus capital has been a big challenge to implementing all the ideas I have for the African market.

7) Your proudest moment to date: My proudest moment was when i picked up my bag and left the UK to venture into African market despite the ills people say about the Continent.

8) Who inspires you? I got a few people who inspired me. I think my biggest is my wife who believe i can make things happen even in the darkest of places. Also a Caucasian woman who is a business developer who helps companies in the UK to start businesses in African inspired me to come home and try create businesses for myself and others.

9) Why did you decide to do what you are doing now? My biggest passion is fashion and it still is. When i got to Nigeria and saw business openings that were untouched i decided to aid people to do business better.

10) If you were not doing your current job, what would you have preferred to do as a second option? I would have launched my clothing line and run with it. El Carter is my brand name.

11) Do you have any future dates planned such as events that you might want the readers to know about? My first online shop has just been put online for the Nigerian market first before we spread to Salone. To open the online shop, my wife has recently launched a social media movement to help people style and maintain their hair. My online shop www.rimale.com.ng is going to be launched by the end of August. It will provide the best hair of Salone products at the best prices.

12) Your advice and tips for individuals that want to follow your footstep/career path? A lot of patients is needed to build any business in Africa. I do not think it will kick off in a day and just do great. You will need to keep letting people know what you do and employ a very good customer service skill because its greatly lacking in Africa. Always allow yourself to start small and improve.

13) How can they contact you through social media? Pls use my insta page @mrmikejacobs. Facebook page is mike jacobs. For the movement is @ritasratings for facebook, twitter, insta and snapchat.

6) Do you have any role in the Sierra Leone community? Yes I do, not only an artiste I’m an activist (for women and children’s right) and a children’s ambassador, I’ve got an ongoing campaign SAY NOT TO RAPE and STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.

12) Your advice and tips for individuals that want to follow your footstep/career path? Be yourself, believe in yourself, believe in your dreams even when nobody does, and use every setback as a comeback with that the sky will be your limit.

13) How can they contact you through social media? On facebook:Fantacee wiz Twitter: iam_fantaceewiz Instagram: fantaceewiz Youtube: Fantacee wiz

How to cook Palm Oil Krain Krain with turkey chicken, barracuda fish and goat meat

How to cook Palm Oil Krain Krain with turkey chicken, barracuda fish and goat meat

How to cook Palm Oil Krain Krain with turkey chicken, barracuda fish and goat meat

I Rep Sierra Leone brings you one of the favorite sauce cook among Sierra Leoneans. Without a doubt everyone has their way of cooking, different methods, different ingredients use and taste. However more or less the same ingredients and process is applied for example most people will put salt, jumbo magie, fish, onions, season salt (white magie) and palm oil. Whilst some do it basic due to health reason as our food are rich in calorie and high cholesterol.

Ingredients

Before moving forward these are the ingredients used in the process of cooking the Krain Krain: Pepper, onions, jumbo magie, season salt, all purpose season, barracuda fish, chicken turkey, goat meat, palm oil, krain krain leaf, ogiri (sesame seed) and of course water.

Process/cooking method

Note as mentioned above, everyone has their way of cooking, different methods and taste so this is my way of cooking the sauce.

    • Put water in the pot
    • Blend/grind/pound the pepper and onions together and pour it in the pot of water
    • Add palm oil and ogiri
    • Add your seasons and magie
    • Leave it to boil/cook for 20 to 30 minutes for taste and for the water to reduce a little in the pot because krain krain doesn’t required a lot of water
    • After some time and you feel the water is less add the krain krain leaf in the pot and add slices of onions ontop of the krain krain and cover the pot and reduce the fire
    • Allow it to steamer for 5 to 10 minutes and mix in order to make sure its not burining
    • Keep mixing with fire reduced, check for taste until you are able to achieve the end result

Before cooking or follow the above process make sure you have done the preparation such as picking, cleaning and cutting the krain krain, meat, pepper, onions, and the rest of the ingredients that you want to put in cooking. Once you are satisfy with everything, off the fire and serve with rice or fufu. See pictures below:
